Luke Herbert collects another trophy from BRSCC chairman Peter Daly - Photo: Gary Hawkins

Luke Herbert was one of several champions and trophy recipients that made an appearance in Stratford-upon-Avon at the annual BRSCC Championship Awards this past weekend.

The now three-time champion of the MX-5 SuperCup ensured that the championship was represented on the night, as he received another trophy to add to his collection from BRSCC chairman Peter Daly. This is set to be have been his last season competing full time in the MX-5 SuperCup, choosing to sit on the sidelines for the 2020 campaign.

Luke first won a title in a Mk3 MX-5 back in 2012 before the championship took on its current guise. After a couple of years racing Renault Clios, Herbert returned to the SuperCup in 2017 and proceeded to take the next two titles on the bounce. He headed into 2019 looking to make it three in a row, but despite winning a race in each of the first two meetings, his win streak would have to go on hold until the beginning of the second half of the season. His main rivals Jack Harding and Aidan Hills took advantage with race wins of their own, before Herbert got back to the top step at Brands Hatch and then took at least one victory in each of the final three events of the season, wrapping up the title at the Donington Park season finale.

Congratulations to Luke for another superb season! He has told us that, despite electing to spend most of 2020 passing on his knowledge as a driver coach, he may still make a couple of appearances throughout the year. Watch this space...
