MX-5 Supercup heads for Cheshire...

An Oulton Park race meeting is a highlight of the calendar for any championship and one all drivers look forward to. The BRSCC MX-5 SuperCup once again this year has a double header on the full length International layout, plus practice and qualifying sessions before hand. With this being a traditional Oulton park one day meeting, it’s a great opportunity for spectators to see the SuperCup cars in action multiple times in one day.

Oulton Park in 2014 was a real turning point for the MX-5 SuperCup championship with its first taste of online video coverage and a guest drive for ITV’s Paul O’Neill. The two superb races from that day have had hundreds of views online and have undoubtedly contributed to the full grids of high quality drivers taking part in 2015.

The 2015 season has been thrilling from the word go but following a hectic triple header last time out at Cadwell Park the drivers will have even more room to race on the wide sweeping Oulton Park circuit. Last year it looked as though we might see the first sub 2.00 minute lap in an MX-5 Mk3 but it didn’t quite come, however with lap records tumbling in 2015 we wouldn’t bet against it happening this year.

Alan Henderson tops the championship standings after Cadwell with a lead of 40 points as no one driver has consistently challenged him at every meeting. This doesn’t mean he’s had it easy, fighting every inch of the way for each of his wins this season. Liam Murphy and Anthony Nield will be looking to add further wins to their tallies this season as will 2nd in the championship JJ Clements who was denied a victory at Cadwell post-race due to passing the safety car too soon after a restart.

Another huge grid for the MX-5 SuperCup and hopefully some fine August weather should combine to make for an excellent days racing.
