The conclusion of the 2015 SuperCup season...

The Mazda MX-5 SuperCup reaches its climax this weekend at the Donington Park circuit, where the 2015 champion will be crowned. For this final event of the year the championship will also receive live coverage of all of the racing action shown via the BRSCC's Youtube channel!

The famous Donington Park National circuit in Leicestershire with its fast and flowing sequences of corners is one that poses a real challenge for drivers but is perfectly suited to the SuperCup cars. Without any slow corners on the course, the drivers can use the excellent balance of their MX-5 race cars to really attack down through the daunting sweeps of the Craner Curves and over the blind crest at Coppice to maintain momentum and carry speed over the lap.

Last season Donington played host to a dramatic title decider, where following a storming drive through the field in the final race for points leader Abbie Eaton, she was prematurely forced in to retirement by contact. It all seemed lost for Abbie but when the flag dropped, championship rival Tom Roche failed to take advantage and Abbie took the title by just a single point. In stark contrast to last year, a brilliant 2015 season for Alan Henderson in which he has managed to convincingly outscore his rivals and been the only driver to consistently fight for the podium positions in every race, means the destination of the overall winner’s trophy is all but confirmed as Henderson heads into the weekend with a 63 point advantage.

However there is still a closely fought battle for the runners up position to decide, with Jonathan Clements, Liam Murphy and Simon Goddard all hoping to finish as number two in the standings. Both Jonathan Clements and Liam Murphy have stood on the top step of the winner’s podium already this season, and it was Liam Murphy who dominated at Donington Park last year taking victory in both races. Simon Goddard is the only one of the trio not to have won so far in 2015 but he’ll be doing everything he can to take his maiden SuperCup win this weekend and snatch second place in this year’s championship. All three drivers will have to give it everything they can to try and beat the competition.

To add extra excitement to the season finale at Donington and giving an added challenge up at the front for the SuperCup regulars will be former BTCC race winner Paul O’Neill, who is making another guest driver appearance in the championship with the Paul Sheard Autos team. O’Neill joined the SuperCup earlier in the 2015 season at Rockingham, where he notched up an impressive double podium finish but couldn’t repeat his victories from Oulton Park in 2014. With the overall championship already decided, he now has the opportunity to really get stuck in and race to win.

With a big grid of SuperCup racers expected for the last meeting of the year and everyone aiming to finish the season on a high, it's sure to be a spectacular finale to a great season of racing!
