The 2016 season has already gone down as one of the best in the Championship's short history, but even before the on track action has started for 2017, the MX-5 SuperCup is returning for another season bigger, better and more exciting than ever before.

With numbers on the entry already reaching a staggering 41 cars, there's never been more interest and intrigue in the SuperCup since it was first conveiced. Off the back of an incredible campaign that saw the title once again go down to the wire, more and more high-quality drivers are seeing the championship as a viable way of going racing against some of the best club racers in the country on a manageable and viable budget.

Championship co-ordinator Mandy Andrew experessed her delight at the current health of the 2017 season at the pre-season stage, stating: "The MX-5 SuperCup already has a fantastic line up for 2017. The quality of the racing and the competitiveness of the championship has only been cemented thanks to drivers such as Nick Dunn, Richard Styrin and Steve Roberts jumping this year, all of which are previous champions at club level. We're thrilled that reigning champion James Blake-Baldwin is back to defend his title and the #1, along with frontrunners such as Jack Harding, Jonathan Greensmith, Liam Murphy and more. A big thank you has to go out to all drivers who have supported the championship from the beginning.

To be part of the growth to 41 registered drivers, is something to be very proud of and it's a number I've no doubt will continue to get bigger.

"Motors TV will be supporting the SuperCup once again, which is always a great selling point when looking for sponsors. The fantastic coverage our championship receives is always available on the dedicated BRSCC YouTube feed and we have an ever growing social media presence.

The Masters contest should also be closely fought with around 15 of our more experienced drivers all set to do battle for that crown.

The cars I have seen on social media so far look incredible, which proves the outstanding level of preparation that's going into such a momentous season. I'm looking forward to the start of the season at Brands Hatch and meeting all the drivers and teams, both new and returning!

A massive thank you must go out as always to all of our sponsors, both existing & new for their support. It’s set to be the best year yet in the SuperCup’s history."

It all begins in earnest on April 8-9 with the opening 3 races of the year at Brands Hatch in Kent and if last season is anything to go by, it's definitely not a spectacle to be missed!
